Meet Becky, a middle-aged woman in a middle-aged marriage with a humdrum job. She meets a mixed-up millionaire who makes her an offer she can’t refuse. Or can she? Or should she? Playwright Steven Dietz explores her options in Becky’s New Car, a slightly dark but always funny comedy about the road not taken.
Flying H Group Theater Company’s Cynthia Killion stars as the congenial Becky Foster, a woman you’ll definitely want as your new best friend. One of the busiest actresses in Ventura County, Killion was last seen in Ojai as the housekeeper-cum-psychic in 2022’s Vanya and Sonia and Masha, and Spike. Other Flying H Group alums, including founder Taylor Kasch, and Stan McConnell, also appear in the cast as Becky’s unwitting suitor and easy-going husband.
Ojai nativ Rosie Gordon makes her directorial debut with this production. The show also features homegrown actresses Denise Heller, as the husband-shopping neighbor, and Amber Shae Hodge as the millionaire’s daughter. Bill Walthall and Max Budroe round out the cast as Becky’s co-worker and son.
Becky’s New Car opens Friday, January 27, and runs weekends through Sunday, February 19. An opening night gala follows the performance on the 27th, and the date for a post-show audience talkback will be announced shortly. Performances are at 7:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 pm on Sundays.
