This spring the Ojai Art Center gives the community the gift of learning. Two free workshops offer unique educational experiences for both youngsters and adults. Award-winning director Gai Laing Jones will donate her time to inspire local theater-lovers, and help youth shore up their stage presence.
“READ AND TALK” Tuesdays March 22-April 26, 6- 8 pm.
In this six-week workshop adults read and discussion classic humorous and serious plays important in American theater.
“ACE IT” Wednesdays March 23-April 13, 6-7:15 pm.
Four-week workshop in which elementary school age students learn to present themselves in a confident manner, including audition tips.

Gai Laing Jones became the first woman to complete a MA in Theatre at CSU Fullerton. She taught Drama at El Dorado High School for thirty-four years. When she retired the school changed the name of the Black Box Theater to The Gai Jones Theater. She serves on the boards of CETA, DTASC, and Ojai Art Center Theater. On the EdTA Board of Directors she serves as Past-President and received the EdTA President’s Award. She writes Theater education books, directs, and is a guest artist and inspirational speaker at various conferences. As a SAG-AFTRA member she performs with the SAG-AFTRA Radio Players. She teaches elementary, middle, high school, and college level educational Theater, along with professional development for Theater educators and senior actors. Her directing credits include over 300 productions. Currently she is a Field Supervisor for the first cohort of Theatre Educators to receive a CA Theatre credential in over 40 years.
