Kellaway lends his music to ‘On Golden Pond’

Ojai musician Roger Kellaway will allow the Ojai Art Center Theater to use three of his pieces during the run of “On Golden Pond,” that opens Jan. 26. Kellaway received an Oscar nomination for best adaptation score for the film “A Star Is Born” and a Grammy Award for best instrumental arrangement for the Eddie Daniels album “Memos from Paradise.”

The co-director of the local production and Kellaway are mutual friends of movie director Karen Arthur. She directed eight of Craig Anderson’s movies for television. Anderson was the director of “On Golden Pond” when it debuted on Broadway almost 40 years ago. Richard Camp also codirects the local production. Arthur urged Anderson to get in touch with Kellaway, who suggested a few pieces the group could use.

“We decided to use three pieces,” said Camp. “One to play prior to the show opening, one to play at intermission and one to play as the audience is leaving. Roger Kellaway is a wonderful musician and composer and we are grateful that he has given us some beautiful music that will greatly enhance the mood and character of the play.”

Kellaway and his wife, Jorjana, were in attendance on opening night, when the First Nighters Club debuts, a program that includes champagne before the play and a private reception afterwards with the cast and directors.

Tickets are still available for the run of the play and can be purchased online at www.OjaiACT.org or by calling 805-640-8797.
